Driving the Bus, PAC-12 Mascots Scramble for Safety
SALT LAKE, June 14, 2011 – One t-shirt shows Swoop, the University of
Utah’s red-tailed hawk mascot driving a bus to Pasadena, home of the Rose Bowl,
as fellow PAC-12 mascots scramble for safety. Another illustrates the logos
from all PAC-12 schools, with the U logo prominently displayed on top. Then
there’s the “EvolUtion” shirt with a proud “U” above the PAC-12 logo.
All
three designs are part of a new line of Utes products commemorating the
University of Utah’s historic entry into the new PAC-12.
Salt
Lake’s Sierra Wholesale Supply, distributor of outdoor recreation
accessories since 1989, today
announced it was granted a license to produce t-shirts and ball caps, all based
on designs by John Kilbourn, political cartoonist for CityWeekly.
The shirts will be available July 1
throughout the Wasatch Front Range in Rite Aid, Fresh Markets, Dan’s and other
local retailers, according to Salt Lake native Jim Friedman, president of Sierra
Wholesale Supply. The commemorative t-shirts will retail for approximately
$17.99 in sizes ranging from small to XXXL. Ball caps are available with the U
and PAC-12 logos for $17.99 suggested retail. Sam's Club in Salt Lake City will
sell an imprinted mini-football showing the official July 1, 2011 date with proceeds
earmarked for the Primary Children's Medical Center in Salt Lake.
“Our
staff has attended U games for years, thus it was especially gratifying that we
obtained a license to produce PAC-12 and University of Utah trademarked caps
and apparel,” said Friedman. “We all bleed red around here.”
PAC-12,
formerly known as PAC-10, is the western U.S. college athletic conference that
was recently expanded to include the University of Utah and the University of
Colorado at Boulder. The newly named PAC-12, the self-proclaimed
"Conference of Champions," has won more NCAA National Team
Championships than any other conference in history.
Sierra
